Field Hockey

Lisa Faust: Played field hockey in Burnaby for 14 years; member of many Rep teams; captained SFU Varsity team for four years; currently on Canadian national team with an incredible 90 caps to her credit; also has helped coach and umpire her sport in Burnaby for ten years; represented Canada at Pan Am Games, Commonwealth Games and American Cup.


Mike James: Outstanding rugby player who has represented Canada 36 times, including two World Cup competitions; began a professional career in 1996 in France after receiving offers from Japan; starred for Canadian under 19 and 23 squads and with the latter won 17 caps to less than one year, a Canadian record.


Buzz Parsons: Outstanding soccer player who played and starred for Simon Fraser University and Cliff Avenue United as an amateur; played professional soccer with Vancouver Whitecaps for eight seasons and was on Soccer Bowl Championship team of 1979; represented Canada in 42 international matches including Pan Am Games, Olympic qualifying and World Cup qualifying games; first general manager of Vancouver 86ers.


Joe Sakic: "Burnaby Joe", one of the finest hockey players ever developed in Burnaby and Canada; played minor hockey with Burnaby Minor Hockey Association; a multiple all-star; outstanding junior career with Swift Current and Canadian national team; drafted in first round of NHL in 1987 and is currently starring with the Colorado Avalanche, having led them to their second Stanley Cup and winning the Hart, Lady Byng and Lester B. Pearson awards; active supporter of minor hockey.


Track and Field

Dave Steen Jr.: Bronze medalist decathlon in 1988 Seoul Olympics; outstanding athlete at Burnaby Central Secondary, set national long jump record in mid-70's; led national decathlon rankings for nine years, breaking his own Canadian record four times; won silver medal in decathlon and 86 Commonwealth Games, won gold in decathlon 1983 at World Student and Pan Am Games; only Canadian to win Olympic decathlon medal.
